• Bears were a common sight this year. So common in our yard that they kept us very alert. In August it was outright dangerous to walk away from the house without a gun. One blond blackbear sow with two cubs was particularly ignorant and aggressive. At one time she charged me back to the house, despite shouting and warning shots. On another occasion a blackbear got in between two of our kids on their way back to the house. Luckily one of our dogs got the bear's scent and on his heels.
